10-Day Amazing Sri Lanka Tour with Travelers from Denmark January 25, 2026

A beautiful journey with travelers from Denmark Every tour has its own story, but some journeys stay in your heart for a long time. This is one of those special trips.

Our total journey together was 10 days, and my guests were a lovely family of four from Denmark — a mother, father, son, and daughter. They found me through Google, read my reviews, and felt confident choosing me as their guide and driver for their Sri Lanka adventure. After exchanging messages, discussing their interests, and carefully planning the itinerary, we agreed on the final tour plan and pricing. And then… the journey began.

Day 1: Arrival in Sri Lanka – A Warm Welcome

The family arrived in Sri Lanka full of excitement. I was waiting for them at the airport, ready to welcome them with love and that unforgettable Sri Lankan hospitality. From the very first moment, I wanted them to feel safe, comfortable, and truly welcomed.

Because they arrived at night, we decided to stay one night in Katunayake / Negombo, close to Bandaranaike International Airport. This is one of the best choices for any tourist arriving late in Sri Lanka — no long drives, just time to rest and recover after the flight.

That first night was peaceful, and it helped everyone start the journey fresh and relaxed.

Day 2: From Katunayake to Sigiriya – Into the Heart of Sri Lanka

The next morning, we began our journey from Katunayake to Sigiriya. Along the way, I shared stories about Sri Lanka — our culture, history, daily life, and the importance of each place we were going to visit. I always believe that when travelers understand the background of a country, their experience becomes much deeper and more meaningful.

By lunchtime, we arrived in Sigiriya, where something truly special was waiting for them

We had lunch at a local village house, prepared with love and traditional Sri Lankan flavors. This meal was unforgettable for the family — fresh ingredients, authentic recipes, and the warmth of a local home. Moments like this are what make Sri Lanka so special.

After lunch, we checked into the beautiful Aliya Resort & Spa, a stunning hotel with
breathtaking views and a calm natural environment. The rest of the evening was spent
relaxing at the hotel, enjoying the surroundings, and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Day 3: Sigiriya – Nature, Culture & Village Life

Day 3: Sigiriya – Nature, Culture & Village Life

We spent the third day entirely in Sigiriya, which is perfect because staying two nights here makes it easy to explore many nearby attractions without rushing

Our day began with a stop at a scenic viewpoint where we could see the majestic Sigiriya Rock Fortress from a distance. We took beautiful photographs before heading to Pidurangala Rock. Climbing Pidurangala is a truly special experience — the views from the top are absolutely stunning, and the feeling of standing there surrounded by nature is unforgettable.

After that, it was time for one of the most loved experiences: the Sigiriya village tour.During the village tour, the family experienced real Sri Lankan daily life:

  • Learning how local people live
  • Seeing traditional tools and methods
  • Traveling by bullock cart
  • Crossing water by Traditional catamaran boat
  • Experience a Sri Lanka three-wheeler (tuk-tuk) ride
  • Lunch was another highlight — a delicious traditional meal prepared by a local
village housewife. The flavors, simplicity, and love in the food made it a truly
    memorable experience

After a full and rewarding day, we returned to Aliya Resort & Spa to rest and reflect on the beautiful experiences we had shared.

Day 4: From Sigiriya to Kandy – History, Faith & Tradition

On the fourth day, we said goodbye to Sigiriya and began our journey towards Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka.

Our first stop was the famous Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside the caves, we saw ancient Buddha statues and wall paintings dating back to the 1st century. The calm and spiritual atmosphere left a deep impression on the family, and it was a beautiful introduction to Sri Lanka’s long Buddhist history.

After that, we visited the local market in Dambulla, where the travelers could see colorful fruits, vegetables, spices, and how local people do their daily shopping. It’s always a great way to experience real Sri Lankan life. Next, we visited a spice garden, where we learned about Sri Lanka’s traditional medicine system. Here, the family was introduced to different medicinal herbs, spices, and natural remedies that Sri Lankans have used for generations.

Since Sri Lanka is a multi-religious country, we also visited a Hindu temple on the way. Hindu people are an important part of Sri Lankan society, and this visit helped the family understand how Hindu temples are built and how devotees worship.

By evening, we arrived in Kandy and checked into our hotel to rest after a meaningful and educational day

Day 5: Exploring Kandy – The Last Kingdom of Sri Lanka

Day 5: Exploring Kandy – The Last Kingdom of Sri Lanka

The fifth day was fully dedicated to exploring the beauty and history of Kandy, the last kingdom of Sri Lanka.

We began the day at the stunning Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, where thousands of plant species, orchids, and giant bamboo trees create a peaceful green paradise.

Next, we visited the Kandy View Point, offering a breathtaking view of Kandy city and the lake. We also spent some time shopping in Kandy, picking up local souvenirs and handicrafts.

Later, we enjoyed a traditional cultural dance show, closely connected to Sri Lankan history and Buddhism. The vibrant costumes, drumming, and energetic performances were truly fascinating for the family.

In the evening, we visited the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic. We arrived just in time for the ceremony to begin, allowing the family to witness how deeply Sri Lankan people respect and honor the Buddha. It was a powerful and emotional experience.

Kandy is my hometown, and it is my tradition to invite my guests to my home. I was very happy to welcome this family into my own house. There, Kasun — the private driver-guide of Chathu Lanka Tours — introduced himself to them as family, not just as a guide. Together, we enjoyed an unforgettable traditional Sri Lankan meal, prepared with love and shared with warmth and laughter.

After this special evening, we returned to the hotel for the night.

Day 6: From Kandy to Nuwara Eliya – Waterfalls & Tea Country

Why 2026 Is a Promising Year for Sri Lankan Tourism

On day six, we traveled from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, also known as Little England.

Along the way, we stopped at the beautiful Ramboda Waterfall, where the sound of rushing water and the cool mountain air created a refreshing experience. We also stopped at several scenic viewpoints, enjoying panoramic views of hills, valleys, and tea plantations.

One of the highlights of the day was visiting a tea factory, where the family learned how world-famous Ceylon Tea is produced. They also enjoyed tasting freshly made tea, straight from the source.

By afternoon, we arrived in Nuwara Eliya and checked into our hotel. Later, we went for a walk around the town, visiting:

  • The Nuwara Eliya local market
  • The historic Red Post Office, built during British times
  • The elegant Grand Hotel
  • Gregory Lake Park, a perfect place to relax and enjoy the cool climate

After enjoying the charm of the city, we returned to the hotel for the night.

Day 7: Scenic Train Journey to Ella – One of the World’s Most Beautiful Rides

Scenic Train Journey to Ella – One of the World’s Most Beautiful Rides

On day seven, one of the most awaited experiences of the entire trip took place — the scenic train journey from Nuwara Eliya to Ella.

The railway station for Nuwara Eliya is located in Nanu Oya, where my guests boarded the train. While they enjoyed the train ride, I traveled separately by car to meet them in Ella.

This three-hour train journey is often described as one of the most beautiful train rides in the world — passing through tea plantations, misty mountains, tunnels, and small villages. The family absolutely loved every moment of it.

After arriving in Ella, we met again and went to the hotel to relax. In the evening, we walked into Ella town for dinner. Ella is famous for its relaxed atmosphere and delicious food, and every restaurant offers something special. After enjoying a wonderful meal, we returned to the hotel to rest and enjoy the peaceful night in the hills.

Day 8: Ella – Nature, Adventure & Relaxation

On the eighth day, we fully enjoyed the beauty of Ella, one of the most loved mountain towns in Sri Lanka.

We made sure not to miss the iconic highlights:

  • The famous Nine Arch Bridge, hidden among lush green hills
  • Little Adam’s Peak, offering an easy climb and stunning views
  • Ella Rock, for those who love a bit more adventure
  • Ravana Pool Club, a perfect place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere

Ella is also well known for its adventure activities, such as the Ella Zip Line and the giant swing. One of the best things about Ella is that there are activities suitable for all ages, whether you love adventure or prefer a relaxed experience

After a full day of sightseeing and fun, we enjoyed a fresh and delicious dinner in Ella town before returning to the hotel for the night.

Day 9: From Ella to Yala – Wildlife Safari Experience

  • On the way, we stopped at the beautiful Ravana Waterfall, a perfect place to enjoy nature and take photographs.

Later, we entered the Yala area and prepared for an unforgettable experience — a four-hour safari in Yala National Park, using a special safari jeep.

During the safari, we were lucky to see a wide variety of wildlife, including:

  • Elephants ,Leopards (often called tigers by visitors) ,Sloth bears,Deer,Buffaloes,And many colorful species of birds

After this incredible wildlife experience, we checked into our Yala hotel, enjoyed a wellearned dinner, and relaxed for the night.

Day 10: From Yala to Mirissa – Sun, Sea & Coastal Beauty

On the tenth day, we traveled from Yala to Mirissa, a town famous for its stunning coastline and relaxed beach vibes.

After checking into our hotel in Mirissa, we explored some of the area’s most popular attractions:

  • Coconut Tree Hill, offering breathtaking ocean views
  • Whale and dolphin watching, one of Mirissa’s most famous experiences

In the evening, we went to a restaurant by the sea and enjoyed a fresh seafood dinner, a perfect way to end a beach day. After dinner, we returned to the hotel and spent the night listening to the sound of the ocean.

Day 11: Farewell Sri Lanka – Memories for a Lifetime

Day 11: Farewell Sri Lanka – Memories for a Lifetime

On the final day, we left Mirissa early in the morning for the night flight. Starting early allowed us to enjoy a few more special places along the way.

During the journey, we visited:

  • The traditional stick fishermen, a unique Sri Lankan sight
  • A turtle farm, where we learned about sea turtle conservation
  • Unawatuna Beach, with its golden sand and clear water
  • The historic Galle Dutch Fort, where we also did some last-minute shopping inside the fort

Afterwards, we traveled to the airport via the Southern Expressway. Before the night flight, we enjoyed our final dinner at a beautiful lagoon, sharing stories and reflecting on the journey we had experienced together.

Finally, it was time to say goodbye at the airport — not just as guide and guests, but as friends, carrying unforgettable memories of Sri Lanka.

An Invitation to Travel with Us This is how we carefully planned and successfully completed this unforgettable journey. The family later shared their experience on the world-famous TripAdvisor, describing their happiness and satisfaction with the tour.
